Companion started in 2023 when Sebastian, going through a rough period, began using ChatGPT as a personal mental fitness tool – adjusting prompts to his own needs. What began as a personal coping mechanism grew into a mission: build a dedicated app that combines AI with psychology research to help others strengthen their mental health. The team assembled around this vision, bringing together expertise in AI, product, governance, and mental health science.
